Requirements & Eligibility

There are a lot fewer up front requirements to become a welder than other professions. There is a test that must be passed, but there are few schooling requirements to get over. One of the requirements is to have a high school degree for many welding schools. Welding schools are more about teaching a person to weld rather than teaching a person about the subject of welding. A student is not going to be graded on how well he or she remembers information. Rather, a student will be graded on how well he or she can weld. This is an important point to remember when going through the process to get certified.

Application Process & Costs

There are several different costs associated with becoming a welder. There are many welder schools around the country and in the Memphis area that can teach students about the craft. Most of the time, these schools will be less than $10,000 to finish completely. Although this sounds like a lot of money, this is much less expensive than other schools that can cost ten times that for a typical degree path. A student should always view his or her education as an investment. In thee welding industry, a good welder can make a considerable amount of money in their field if they are skilled.

Online Programs

Welding is mostly a hands on activity. For this reason, there are not as many online programs for welding as other educational majors to take on. However, some of the welding schools around Memphis do have different online classes associated with their schools. Welding will always be something that students have to learn with hands on experience. However, more of the basic classes are moving to an online format of some kind.

Maintaining Certification/License & Renewal

There are several things to keep in mind when it comes to getting a welding certification. Many people think that their learning is done after completing school. However, in order to maintain success over the long term it is important to continue investing in your education in the craft. There are always going to be new technologies coming out in welding, and workers who stay at the top of their craft will have the largest income earning potential. There is a lot of opportunity right now in Memphis for high income clients needed work for construction projects. Learning new technology in the trade can help welders scale up how much they can do in a given time period.

Salary & Job Prospects

It is difficult to show exactly what someone will make who graduates from a welding school in Memphis for several reasons. First of all, the income of the welder is entirely dependent upon their skill. There are many people who learn welding only to find out that they do not have a passion for it. Others go to work starting a business rather than working for a company. All of this can result in earnings that are all over the place. At the end of the day, opportunity is there in welding for people who are willing to put in the work.
